Sustainable Innovation, Collective Creation
How can high school students drive urban change?
The Fab City Challenge (FCC) empowers local communities to tackle urban sustainability issues through digital fabrication, circular economy practices, and participatory design. It promotes intergenerational collaboration and inspires young people to believe they can make a difference.
In 2024, Lit Liao, founder of Litchee Lab in Shenzhen, launched the Fab City Challenge Shenzhen, the first 10-day urban co-creation challenge for high school students. The initiative connects schools, communities, and stakeholders to support youth in understanding societal challenges and taking action to improve their cities through real-world, interdisciplinary projects.
Now, FCC High School is launching "Challenge 2.0," expanding globally with multi-city participation, expert mentorship, and open-source collaboration. Cities will each select a week in July to join the challenge, complemented by the Fab Zero One-Day Challenge and a touring exhibition.
